How to Hook a Wired Headset to a PS3

Although many controllers and other devices connect wirelessly to Sony's Bluetooth-compatible PlayStation 3, wired headsets connect to to the PS3 using the USB port located on the front of the system. Headsets come with headphones to hear the action and a microphone so that you can communicate with other PS3 gamers online. Keep in mind that not all headsets are compatible, though most are.

      Turn on the PS3 and go to the XMB screen (PlayStation main menu).

      Plug the USB end of the headset into the PS3. The ports are located on the front panel. Often the headset will connect without any hassle and you will be able to use it once you start a compatible game.

      If the headset is not responding correctly, update your PS3 system. This can be done by going to the ̶0;Settings̶1; menu and choosing ̶0;System Update.̶1; You will need to restart the system after any updates.

      Unplug the headset, and then re-plug it in.

      If the headset is still not working, navigate to the ̶0;Audio Settings̶1; located under ̶0;Settings̶1; on the main menu. From here, select the output option. Make sure it is set to the headset to be able to hear other gamers through the headphone portion of the headset.
