How to Use a Mouse & Keyboard When the PS3 Has Only 2 USB Ports

Certain PS3 games, while they may not require a keyboard or mouse, may be easier to play using these devices. To connect a keyboard and mouse, you will need to use two available USB ports. However, if you are already using two of your PS3's USB ports, depending on your model, you may not be able to add any more devices. Some versions of Sony's PS3--the first- and second-generation models, to be exact--came with four USB ports. But the newer generations--the third and fourth models--come with only two available USB ports.

If you want to use a keyboard and mouse on your newer generation PS3, while still leaving your other devices connected, you will need to attach extra equipment.

Power down the PS3. Unplug a USB device from one of the PS3's USB ports if necessary. Plug the USB hub into the now-available port. Plug the USB device you just removed from the PS3 into the USB hub.
