How to Connect a PS3 Controller

The Sony PlayStation 3 is a next-generation gaming system that allows you to play games via wireless controllers. Although these controllers are connected via Bluetooth, you need to connect them to the PlayStation before you can remove the cables. This process takes no extra software or hardware and everything needed comes packaged with the remote control.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the Sony PlayStation 3 and wait for the main menu to load up on the television screen.

    • 2

Insert the controller's USB cable into one of the front USB ports on the gaming system. Plug the other end of the cable into the USB data port on the top of the controller. This port is directly in the middle of the top, in between the L and R control buttons.

    • 3

Wait for the PS3 to recognize your gaming controller. You will see a series of flashing lights on the top of the controller. Once only one remains lit, you can disconnect it from the USB cable.

    • 4

Wait to see if your controller still controls the PS3 after it has been disconnected from the USB cable. If it does not, push the PS3 button in the middle of the controller pad. This syncs up the controller with the gaming device. In a moment you can begin using your PlayStation controller.
