How to Update Your PS3

Sony releases updates for the PlayStation 3 many times throughout the year, generally adding new features to the system and fixing bugs and exploits currently existing. The update is essential to being a part of the newest experience available with your home console, and often will smooth over video or gaming issues presented in prior updates. The updates tend to be small in size, often downloading and installing in under 10 minutes, provided you have an average internet connection.

Instructions

      Power on your PlayStation 3 console with either the controller or by pressing the button on the front of the unit.

      Move your cursor all the way to the left, until you hit the "Settings" tab.

      Move the cursor all the way up, until you hit "System Update" and then press X.

      Choose "Internet Connection" as your method of updating, and select 'Next" if it tells you that an update is available.

      Choose "OK" when it says it is preparing to update, then watch the progress bar until it reaches 100 percent.

    • 6

      Do not restart your console, as it will do this automatically and the new update is applied!
