How Do I Download MP3 Files From My USB Drive on PlayStation 3?

It's easy to access and play MP3 files on your PlayStation 3 game console when you transfer them from your USB drive to the PS3. This eliminates the need to search for files on a network through the PlayStation itself, and is a quick way of copying multiple files.
  1. Loading Files onto the USB Drive

    • It's important to properly load the files in an easy-to-find manner on the USB drive. To do this, insert the USB drive into the USB port of your computer. If a pop-up appears, asking if you want to browse the USB folder, click "Yes" or "Open." If this pop-up does not appear, navigate to the drive itself using computer's explorer. Make a new folder to place all the music files in and keep it open on your screen.

PS3Explained.com claims it is essential to use the correct folder structure when copying files to your PS3, and by creating a folder just for your MP3's, it makes it easy to find these files once you import them to the PlayStation console. You also won't have to sift through any other files you might have on the USB stick that would rather not import to the PlayStation.

Navigate to the folder where the desired MP3 files are located; drag and drop the MP3's files from their folder to the USB folder. Copy as many files as you'd like, or as many as the USB drive will accommodate.

In the task bar at the bottom right of your computer screen, you should see an icon indicating activity at the USB port. Right-click on this icon and select "Safely Remove Hardware." Remove the USB drive when the computer tells you it is safe to do so.

    Saving MP3 Files to PS3

    • Insert the USB drive into the USB port located on the bottom left of your PS3. With the PS3 turned on, navigate to the "Music" category using the left or right toggle on your PS3 controller. Move the toggle up or down until you find a listing labeled "USB Device." Press the green triangle button on the controller and select "Display All" with the "X" button. Your MP3 folder should appear.

Press the green triangle button when the MP3 folder is selected. In the right hand pane, you will be given the option to copy the folder. Navigate to the copy command press the "X" button. This will copy all of the tracks onto the PlayStation. You can navigate to the files under the "Music" pane on the PS3 and select these tracks when you want to play them.
