Charging
Turn on your PlayStation 3. Sony's next-generation console charges its controllers through USB ports on the console's front. The system must be on to charge a controller. If you turn off the system and try to charge a controller, the controller will not get charged.
Plug in a USB 2.0 A/B Cable with a USB A type end on one side and a Mini B connector on the other. This "USB A / Mini B" is a common cable available for less than $10, and it should ship with your PlayStation 3. The USB A side plugs into the USB A ports on the PlayStation 3's front. The Mini-USB side will plug into your controller.
Plug the Mini B side of the cable into the Mini B port on the front of the Dualshock controller. When you plug in the USB cable to the Mini B Port, the four red LED lights next to the Mini B port will begin flashing. This means the controller is charging.
Charge the controller with the PS3 on for an hour to gain several hours of playtime charge out of the controller.
