How to Change a PSN Name

If you are on the PlayStation Network, then you have a PSN name, which identifies you to your friends online, anyone you play with or against in online games, and anyone whom you interact with in PSN's Home. Of course, players sometimes choose PSN names that they later want to change for one reason or another. While Xbox Live features the ability to change a current ID by paying a few dollars, PSN does not, so the only way to change a PSN name is to set up a new account.

Instructions

    • 1

Carefully consider whether you want a new PSN name. You will need to start fresh with a new PSN name because you cannot transfer information from one PSN account to another.

    • 2

Consider what name you want to use. Remember that the name is permanent and cannot be changed, so make sure to carefully choose a PSN name.

    • 3

Access the Internet on a computer and visit the PSN website at www.PlayStation.com (see Resources below).

    • 4

Register for a new account. Do so by clicking on the link that says "Join Now" at the top of the screen. This will lead to a new page where, once again, you will have to click "Join Now." You will move through a series of questions asking for your country of residence, your birth date, email and PSN ID. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete your registration.
