How to Install Dual Shock 3

Dual Shock 3 adds a much-sought-after rumble feature to the Playstation 3's Sixaxis controller. In order to use the Dual Shock 3 controller with your Playstation 3, the console and controller have to be set up. This will not take long.

Things You'll Need

Playstation 3 with Internet connection
Sixaxis controller
Dual Shock 3 controller
Dual Shock 3 USB cable

  Turn on the Playstation 3 and make sure it is running the latest firmware. Using your original Sixaxis controller, open the Settings menu and select System Update. If your firmware needs to be upgraded, the Playstation 3 will download the new firmware. Firmware files can be large so the download may take a while.

  Install the new firmware. Once the firmware has been downloaded, the Playstation 3 will restart and guide you through the install process. If your Playstation 3 is not connected to the Internet, you can use your computer to download a firmware update from the Playstation 3 website and install it from a thumb drive.

  Sync your new Dual Shock 3 controller to the Playstation 3. Plug the controller into the console using the USB cable. If the controller does not sync automatically, press the PS button to sync the Dual Shock 3 with the Playstation 3.
