How to Find a Friend on the PS3 Network

The Playstation 3 Network is designed as a online "home" for owners of the PS3 video game console. The PSN provides an online location where people can meet and join in games and activities. Finding a friend through the PS3 Network requires a PSN account. Once this is done, finding a friend through the PSN is easy.

Instructions

      Turn on the PS3 and navigate to the "Network" icon. Select "Playstation Network," "Create a new account" and press the "X" button on the controller.

      Follow the prompts to enter information about yourself and create an "Online ID" (username) and a password. Press "Confirm" to finalize the account. Say "No" if asked to complete a survey.

      Choose an avatar (picture) from the images provided to use with your account. Select "Proceed to Playstation Store" and enter your Online ID and password into the sign-in window that appears.

      Purchase or select a free online game from the Playstion Store. Download the game to the PS3's hard drive.

      Exit the Playstation Store and return to the PS3's main menu.

      Go to the "Games" icon and select the game that has been downloaded. Press "X" to activate the game and wait for the game to load. Follow the game prompts to play the game for a couple of minutes. Quit the game and return to the PS3 main menu.

      Go to the "Friends" icon and view the newly added options that run vertically. Choose a potential "friend" from the list and send them a message using the "Message box," asking them if they will be your friend.

      Those who respond in the affirmative will now be your friends on the PSN.
