How to Record TV on PS3

Sony keeps pushing the limits of its gaming system and is now offering PlayTV, an add-on tuner that allows the PlayStation 3 to watch and record TV like a digital video recorder. Currently offered in the UK, the company claims Australian and European versions are in the works (as of November 2009), yet no word so far as to a North American option. The device is high-definition ready, offering high quality picture.

      Purchase the PlayTV unit. They can be ordered online and will come with the hardware, cables and software to get you started.

      Connect the Play TV unit to your PS3. The RF cable that runs from the TV aerial should be plugged into the back of the Play TV unit. Then connect the PS3 to the Play TV device with the USB cable provided.

      Make sure the PS3 has the correct date and time settings. This is needed to ensure your DVR capabilities will work correctly.

      Install the software. Insert the CD that came with the PlayTV, and follow the install directions. Once completed, you will go through some setting confirmations to make sure everything is working properly.

      Use the PS3 controller or PlayStation remote to go to the "Guide" or "Live TV" section of the menu. Select "Options" and then "Record." From here you can select your recording options, such as start time.
