Setup
To set up your PS3 WiFi connection you will need high-speed Internet access, a DSL or cable modem and a wireless router. Additionally, you need a WiFi compatible PS3. The 40GB, 60GB, 80GB and 160GB models are all WiFi compatible. The 20GB model does not support WiFi.
Start by connecting your PS3 to your TV following the instructions in the console's user manual. Connect your modem to the Internet, and connect the wireless router to the modem. Consult your network devices' user manuals for specific information on setting up a WiFi access point.
Unplug your network devices for a full 2 minutes before trying to connect the PS3 to your WiFi setup. When you have completed the power cycle, plug the devices in and turn on your PS3. If an Ethernet cable is plugged into your PS3, remove it before trying to connect to a WiFi access point.
Network Configuration
Highlight the "Settings" section of the menu and select "Network Settings." Select "Internet Connection" and select "Enable." Select "Internet Connection Settings" and select "Yes" when asked if you wish to continue.
Select "Easy" for your setting method and select "Wireless" for your connection method. Select "Scan" under WLAN settings. The system will display a list of available wireless networks. Select your network from the list. If your network is not displayed, ensure that your WiFi network devices are working properly. If your signal strength is low, consider moving your PS3 closer to your wireless router, or vice versa.
Confirm your network selection and choose your type of network security. Most networks use WEP security, but consult your wireless router manual if you are unsure. Enter your security key with the onscreen keyboard, and press "Start" when you are finished. Press the "X" button when prompted to save your settings and test the WiFi connection. If the connection is successful, your PS3 will automatically connect to the Internet.
