How to Set Up a Wireless Connection on a PS3

Establishing a wireless Internet connection on your PlayStation 3 console is a quick and easy way to access the PlayStation Network. Once online, you can play games with friends, download content from the PlayStation store and use chat functions. Sony incorporated an Internet connection setup wizard into PS3 software, allowing for rapid setup. Connecting wirelessly allows you to set up your console anywhere within reach of the router's signal, as opposed to a corded setup that keeps your PS3 tethered to the router.

Place your console within range of your wireless router. You will establish a stronger connection by placing the PS3 close to the router. A stronger connection reduces lagging during gameplay.

Turn on your PS3 and scroll to the "Settings" tab on the Xross Media Bar. Scroll down through the settings menu until you locate "Network Setting." Hit "X" to open this menu.

    • 3

Use the directional pad to select "Internet Connection Settings" and "X" to launch the wizard.

Highlight and select the "Scan" option to begin detecting your wireless signal. From the search results, highlight and select your connection and hit "X."

Select which type of encryption you wish to use, then press the right arrow to advance to the next screen. If you have a encryption key or password, enter it and press "X" to continue. If you do not have a password, simply hit "X" to skip this screen.
