What is DNS?
Domain Name Service (DNS) is a network communication protocol. DNS allows easier communication from the client to the server without users having to input a specific IP address.
Physical DNS Error(s) on the PS3
The Playstation's DNS error is usually the result of increased network traffic, a nonresponsive server or a weak wireless signal. Check the router for power, the Internet connection's status, and if necessary, use an Ethernet cable to plug the PS3 into the router.
PS3 Firmware Update
If an Internet connection can be established, a user can check for updates on the PS3 XMB and select "Update System." Otherwise, visit the Playstation 3 Support site and forums for other update options and solutions.
Manually Resolving the DNS
Manually entering DNS settings through the PS3's <Network Settings> is another solution. The router's DNS settings and the DNS settings of the ISP are needed.
Router Firmware Update
The router's firmware may also need an upgrade. Check the manufacturer's website for instructions.
