How to Back Up PS2 Games to the PS3

Insert the Sony Memory Card Adapter into one of the open USB slots on the PlayStation 3.

Insert a PlayStation 2 memory card into the Sony Memory Card Adapter. Original PlayStation memory cards also work.

From the main PlayStation 3 menu (XMB), select the "Game" menu option, followed by "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)." Press the "X" button on the PS3 controller.

If the memory card was inserted properly, an icon appears on the screen denoting the memory card and identifying whether it is a PS2 or original PlayStation memory card. Using the PS3 controller, select the memory card and press the triangle button. Two options appear on the screen---"Copy" and "Information."

Select the "Copy" option and press the "X" button on the PS3 controller.

When prompted to confirm that the files are to be copied to the PS3, select "Yes" at the prompt and press the "X" button to continue.

All older PlayStation save game files are stored on the PS3 in an internal memory card. When prompted to accept or change the default name for this internal card, move the cursor to "OK" and press the "X" button to start the file transfer process.

A status bar appears on the screen marking the file transfer process. After the transfer is complete, you are reminded that you must select a slot for this internal memory card before using it in a game. Press the circle button on the PS3 controller to close this dialog and press the triangle button to bring up the submenu for selecting a slot.
