Connecting to PlayStation Network
All PS3 models support a wired connection to your network. Most models will also support a wireless connection if you have a wireless router sending a signal. Visit Network Settings, open under the "Settings" tab on the PS3 dashboard to test and configure your network connection. If setting up a wireless connection network, you may choose to scan for available wireless networks or you can enter the network SSID manually. The PS3 supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 wireless security settings.
If you have not previously connected to PlayStation Network, you will be prompted to create a PSN account by using your PS3 username and creating a new password. You may choose to be signed in automatically to PSN every time you power on your PS3, otherwise you will be prompted sign in whenever you need to connect to PSN. After you have registered and signed into PSN, you may configure your friends' list under the Friends tab on the system's dashboard. Here, you may send friends requests and messages to users you know, or anyone you have met while playing in a game online by viewing the Players Met list. You can also view and receive notifications every time your friends are online.
PlayStation Store and PlayStation Home
The PlayStation Network tab on the dashboard allows users to access a library of media available for download and meet up with others to discuss favorite games. At the PlayStation Store, users can purchase and download games, movies, television shows and artwork for their PS3. Movies can be rented for a small fee or purchased. Most movies and shows are available in standard or high-definition Blu-ray quality. PlayStation Home allows you to customize an avatar living in a large virtual world. Purchase or find items to decorate your avatar and her apartment, and then go visit the designated locations for your favorite games and discuss them with other fans.
