Component Cable
A component cable will also run high-definition video, and it can be found at any electronics retailer. Most of the early high-definition TVs only have inputs for composite cables, so HDMI cables are not even an option for these models.
Identification
Component cables can be easily identified by their five RCA cables, whereas the HDMI cable only has one, as depicted in the pictures above.
Price Difference
Component cables generally cost less than HDMI cables. For example, as of 2009 Best Buy sells an 8-foot HDMI cable for $69.99 and a 10-foot component cable for $24.99.
HDMI Advantages
HDMI cables do have a few advantages, though. Since they only have one input, they are easier to install. In addition, the cables run high-definition in 1080i more easily than component cables.
PS3-issued HDMI
Sony manufactured an official PS3-issued HDMI cable for their system, but this cable is not required for those wishing to go the HDMI route. Other HDMI cables are just as compatible.
