      Street Fighter IV features two meters, the Revenge Meter, and Super Meter. Understanding how these meters work, are the keys to victory.

      The Revenge Meter is the circular gauge located at the bottom of the corner screen. When damaged, the Revenge Meter fills up. When the Revenge Meter is filled halfway marked by the line and has a fiery glow, your character is able to preform an Ultra Move. The words Ultra will also appear by the Revenge Meter. When the Revenge Meter is filled to the max the flames will grow bigger, and your Ultra Move will deal more damage.

      The Super Meter is the longer bar located at the bottom of the screen that is labeled "Combo". When damaged, dealing damage, or using special moves, the Super Meter fills. The Super Meter is divided into 4 sections. When one section is filled, it will glow a brighter blue, letting you know that your character can now perform an EX version of a Special Move. When filled to the maxed the Super Meter will say the word "Super" by the bar, enabling your character to perform their Super Move. The Super Meter is also used to cancel many moves into Focus Attack.

      There are 8 Directional Movements, 3 Punch Buttons, and 3 Kick Buttons. Every character is capable of this. A combination of buttons and/or movements can create Special Moves and Ultra Moves. Every character have a different set of movements and combination for their Special Moves. But here is the basic of all characters.

      Basic Movement
      Your character can move back and forth, crouch, or jump. While crouching your character cannot move.

      Walk Forward = Hold Forward
      Walk Back = Hold Back
      Dash Forward = Tap Forward twice quickly
      Dash Back = Tap Back twice quickly
      Jump = Up, Up+Forward, Up+Back
      Crouch = Down, Down+Forward, Down+Back
      Block High = Hold Back
      Block Low = Hold Down+Back

      Basic Attacks

      Low Punch (Jab)
      Medium Punch (Strong)
      Hard Punch (Fierce)

      Low Kick (Short)
      Medium Kick (Forward)
      Hard Kick (Roundhouse)

      Throw = Low Punch + Low Kick
      Throws cannot block throws, however you can escape basic throws (called tech). To tech a throw, you push Low Punch + Low Kick the moment the opponents tries to grab you.

      Focus Attack = Medium Punch + Medium Kick
      The Focus Attack is the new concept introduced for Street Fighter IV. There are 3 Levels of Focus Attack depending on how long you hold down Medium Punch + Medium Kick. At first level, the character will instantly attack right away. Second Level stuns the opponent, and Third Level is unblockable and stuns the opponent. While using focus attack, the character can absorb any normal hit. However, there are certain moves depending on the character that can break the Focus Attack. Focus Attack can also be used to cancel certain special move, however, doing this feat requires half of the Super Meter. Pressing Medium Punch + Medium Kick the instant you perform a special move will cancel that special move into the Focus Attack. Focus Attack is also cancelable by dashing back or forth while holding down the Medium Punch + Medium Kick.

      Taunt = Hard Punch + Hard Kick
      Taunt doesn't deal any damage or build any meters. Taunting however, could possibly make the player playing mad.

      Every character is also capable of being dizzy, if a character is constantly damaged and not able to block, the character will become dizzy. While being dizzy the character stands daze as the opponent is free to do whatever. Being hit breaks dizziness. Mashing buttons and directions helps the character recover faster from dizziness.

      Special Moves, Super Combo and Ultra Combo

      Special Moves are performed by certain movements and combination of buttons, depending on character. Almost every special move has an EX version. The EX version is often times stronger, changes the attributes of the special moves and requires 1/4 of the Super Bar. To perform the EX version of a special move, simply press 2 punches or 2 kicks instead of one.

      Super Combo are performed when the super bar is filled however, it is better for some characters to use EX moves and Focus Attack Cancels instead of saving the Super Meter.

      Ultra Combo is the most damaging technique for all characters. The Ultra Combo takes different damage depending on how much of the Revenge Meter is filled.

      When blocking a special move, super or ultra combo, damage is dealt. Although the block damage may not be a lot, throughout the course of a battle, it adds up.
