The DNS Server Error
You may be presented with a DNS server error when connecting to your wireless network. You will constantly be connecting to and disconnecting with your access point, making online gaming, streaming music and movies and browsing the internet next to impossible. The DNS server error is often followed by a grouping of numbers and letters such as "80710102" or "8002A220." These numbers and letters help Sony and the user pinpoint the problem.
Wireless or Wired?
This error occurs only when your Sony Playstation 3 is connected to your network through a wireless access point (router). When you connect with a wire directly into your modem, you will not be presented with a DNS server error. To connect with a wire, simply connect ethernet cabling from your router or modem to the back of the PS3. Your network configuration will be automatically filled in, and you will be connected to the network.
If you cannot connect with a wired connection, contact Sony--you may need a replacement unit.
Identifying the Problem
With most of these DNS server errors, the fix is usually the same. For those of you who want to identify the problem, when the error occurs, a message will be presented in the upper right hand corner of your monitor. It will tell you that the Playstation 3 has been disconnected from the server, followed by the grouping of numbers and letters.
Fixing the problem
There are easy fixes for DNS server errors. When you are configuring your network settings on your Playstation 3, manually insert the settings instead of allowing the device to fill the information in automatically. If this does not work, try resetting your wireless access point (router) by pressing the reset button, or by unplugging it and plugging it back in a few minutes later.
