How to Change a PS3 Online Name

If you want a change of Identity on your PlayStation 3, it isn't hard to start fresh. Picking a new name is quite easy, and though you won't be able to bring any of your trophies from your old name, you'll still be able to earn new ones and create a new persona for yourself online.

  1. Changing Names

      Start up your PlayStation 3, but don't log in. Scroll over to the users tab on the cross-media bar (XMB) and then scroll down until you see the "Create New User" option. Press the X button.

      Enter all your information, including your correct email address. Then fill in your desired PS3 online name.

      Choose whether this will be a master or subaccount. You can have more than one master on a PlayStation 3, so you don't have to worry about loosing functionality if your original PS3 online name was designated as a master account.

      Enroll the account in the PlayStation Network. Make sure to complete this part of the process, otherwise you will not be able to go online with the new PS3 online name.

      Log in to the new PS3 online name and play online. You will be able to see your new name displayed during game play.
