How to Watch MP4s on a PS3

In addition to being a high-performance gaming console, PlayStation 3 is also a fully functional entertainment center. It can play DVDs, Blu-Ray discs and even digital media downloaded to its hard drive. Getting MP4 files to play on your PS3 is a fairly simple process involving a quick transfer of data.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the MP4 files you want to watch on your PlayStation 3 into a central folder on your computer's desktop.

    • 2

Insert a removable storage device compatible with the PlayStation 3 into your computer. This can be anything from a high capacity Memory Stick Duo (1GB or above) to a USB drive or even an iPod.

    • 3

Go to "My Computer" and select the removable storage device from the drives and storage area. Double-click on it to display its contents.

    • 4

Drag the folder you created in step 1 into the storage window. A new window will pop up letting you know that a data transfer is in progress. Once this window disappears, the MP4s have been transferred, and you can remove your storage device.

Plug your storage device into the PlayStation 3. If you are using a USB drive or an iPod, connect using the USB ports on the front of the PlayStation 3. If you are using a Memory Stick Duo, insert it into the memory card hub behind the small door on the left side of the console.

Boot up the PlayStation 3 and go to the "Videos" section. Select your storage device and browse for the files you want by scrolling up and down with the left thumbstick. Then select a file with the "X" button. Once selected, an MP4 video file will play automatically.
