How to Network a PS3

The Sony Playstation 3 (PS3), a powerful gaming system, can give enhanced functionality when connected to your home network. From listening to your music through your PS3 to playing PS3 games online with friends and even browsing the Internet, if you have the means, you should have your console networked. This guide will show you how to connect your PS3 to your home network.

Instructions

    • 1

If you are planning on using a wired connection, plug in the Ethernet cable to jack at the back of the PS3 while the console is off.

    • 2

On the PS3's main menu, known as the XMB, go to Settings->Network Settings->Internet Connections and select enabled.

    • 3

Navigate to Settings->Network Settings->Internet Connection Settings and select "Yes," as you currently have no connection.

    • 4

Select "Custom," then select your connection type, wireless or wired.

    • 5

On any further selection screens, select "Automatic" as the system should be able to identify the proper settings. Note that you will need any encryption keys you may have for a wireless connection.

    • 6

On the next screen, press "X" to test the connection and verify that your PS3 is networked. The test can take a minute or so.
