How to Get the Guardian Forces Tonberry King and Odin in Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy VIII is a game full of side quests and optional content; it can be hard to figure out where to go and what to do. Guardian Forces are a very important part of the game, and there are many optional ones that make the later parts of the game much easier to finish. Two of these are the Tonberry King and Odin, who are located in the Centra Ruins.

Instructions

  Travel out to the Centra Ruins. The large tower is where Odin is. You want to defeat Odin before you try and get the Tonberry King because of the quest timer. Save your game outside, make sure your characters are at full health and check your junctions.

  Equip Diablos's guardian force abilities enc-half or enc-none, because with the twenty-minute time limit you don't want to be fighting any random encounters, especially with the creatures that roam around the ruins. They're dangerous and hard to defeat quickly.

  Enter the tower when you're ready. Follow the staircases to an altar, which is actually an elevator. Get on the elevator and ride it to the top.

  Get off the elevator. You'll be facing two ladders. If you're doing fine on time, take the right ladder, which leads to an Aero draw point. If you skip it, take the left ladder up and flip the switch. Climb back down the ladder.

  Look at the altar. It should be lit up now. When you walk up to it and examine it, a staircase will appear on the right.

  Follow the stairs to the top. You should be in a room with a large demon statue. Climb the ladder on the left, and take the eye out of the statue. Then climb up the stairs on the right side of the room. This staircase leads to the top of the tower.

  Climb up the left side of the dome to find a second demon statue with a red eye. Place the left eye in the statue, and a code will generate. It's random, so you might want to write it down.

  Take both eyes out of the statue, and go back to the first demon statue down the stairs. Put both eyes in it, and you'll be asked to input the code that was generated. This opens a door; behind it is Odin.

  Fight Odin. This is a race against time, so cause as much damage as possible. Odin will not attack you. You can draw Triple from him if you have the magic to use. If you defeat him within the time limit, he will join you.

  Now you can go get Tonberry King. This is simple but time-consuming. Descend the tower, and defeat 10 to 22 Tonberry enemies. Do this by summoning Diablos and causing high damage. The Tonberry King will appear immediately after your last battle with a Tonberry.

  Defeat the Tonberry King and he'll join you as a Guardian Force. He is immune to Diablos' attacks, so use your highest damage Guardian Forces to fight him. This is a long battle so be ready to spend some time on it. It can take up to thirty minutes to kill the Tonberry King. After killing him, he will join you.
