Extract Files
Look at the extracted ePSXe Emulator .ZIP file to locate a folder labeled "Plug-ins." Open the folder, and extract all of the plug-in files located in the folder into a folder with the same name. Open the "BIOS" folder in the extracted ZIP file, and extract the BIOS into a folder with the same name.
ePSXe Configuration
Start ePSXe and a configuration setup window will open. Click "Skip Config" to manually configure the settings of the emulator. Look for the video plug-in files in the plug-in folder to ensure that you extracted them from the .ZIP file. If they aren't, extract them now. In the ePSXe window, click "Config," then "Video," and select the name of your video plug-in. Click "Configure," and the "Configure (name of your video plug-in)" dialog box will appear. Select the performance you desire, and click "OK." Return to "Config," and then click "Sound" to make the "Sound" dialog box appear. Select the name of the audio plug-in you extracted; then click "OK." Click on "Config | Bios | Select | Scph1001.bin | Open;" then click "OK." Return to "Config" go to "Game Pad, and click "Pad 1." An image of a PS controller will appear on screen. Change the setting to a key configuration of your liking by clicking a box and then typing a key that you want to set for that box on the controller.
ISO File
Download a PSX ISO .RAR file. Unzip and extract the .RAR file with WinRAR to a folder of the same name. If your ISO has a compressed or zipped file that ends in .ECM, download the Error Code modeler or ECM program, and use it to extract the file. On the ePSXe click "File," and then "Run ISO." A dialog box will open. Select the ISO from the list, and load it. The game may take a minute to load, which is normal. When the game's start menu appears, you can start playing your ePSXe game.
PlayStation CD
You can make an ISO file from your own PlayStation games by downloading and installing a free program called ImgBurn from Imgburn.com (see Resource 1). Run ImgBurn, the click "Create Image File From Disc." Select the drive that the PlayStation CD is in, click "Read" and the CD will be copied, or ripped onto your PC, and saved as an ISO file within 30 minutes. ISO files that are saved onto your computer's hard drive will run faster. Once you copy your game to the image file, you can even save it and install ePSXE onto your smartphone so you can play the game while you're out.
Playing Games
Playing a PlayStation game on an emulator is different than playing it on the classic console. To pause the game, press "Esc." You will exit the emulator and enter the desktop window, with the emulator window still running in the background. Return to your game by clicking on the emulator tab, "Run," then "Continue." Save your game by pressing "F1" and load a saved game by pressing "F3."
