How to Make a Signal Booster for the PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3 has an internal Wi-Fi antenna on the right side at the back of the unit. You can boost the wireless signal to your PS3 in a number of ways, all of which involve getting more radio waves from your Wi-Fi router to hit the antenna on your PS3. Since the signal from your router is reflected by metal, using some aluminum foil or other thin, metallic substance can bounce the Wi-Fi signal right where you want it.

Instructions

    • 1

Set your PS3 on its left edge so the right side is up in the air. This give the internal Wi-Fi antenna a better chance a receiving a signal from your router.

    • 2

Cut the cardboard so that it is a square the same height as your PS3 standing on edge.

    • 3

Fold the cardboard square lengthwise. Unfold the cardboard so that the two halves are perpendicular to each other.

    • 4

Cut a square of foil the same size as the cardboard. Tape the foil to the back of the cardboard so the inside of the L shape created by the cardboard is blank and the outside has the foil.

    • 5

Set the cardboard booster behind your PS3 so that the foil is facing away from the console. Arrange the sides of the cardboard so that they stick out at a 45 degree angle from the sides of the PS3 and the crease is centered on the back of the PlayStation.

    • 6

Rotate the PS3 and booster so that they point directly at your Wi-Fi router. This will boost the signal within the 90 degree arc of the booster, but any radio waves behind the PS3 will be blocked out.
