To create the ultimate "Final Fantasy Tactics" character, you need to build the character up, level him down and level him back up again. A character experiences different skill gains depending upon which job the character is performing. A bard gains less strength per level than a knight, for example. When a character levels down, the character loses the amount of skill for his current class. So, if you originally level up as a knight, level down as a bard and level up again as a knight, the character will have more total strength than he would have had as just a leveled-up knight.

Use a frog spell to turn the last enemy into a harmless frog.
-
4
Move the character you want to level down over the degenerator trap. He will lose a level.

Move the character one space off the trap, and then move back on the trap to lose another level. Repeat this process until you reach the desired level.
