How to Keep Your Back End From Sliding in Demolition Derby in the Figure 8

"Demolition Derby &Figure 8 Race" is a PC racing game released in 2002 by Auxiliary Power. It is the only game of note besides Psygnosis' "Destruction Derby" and Bugbear's "FlatOut" to focus on true demolition-derby-style gameplay. There's also a slalom-style event in the game called Figure 8, where players attempt to keep their huge, unwieldy stock cars from spinning out on repeated hairpin turns.

Instructions

    • 1

Speed into the turn, going as straight as possible. The idea behind making a hairpin turn for a figure 8 is to begin turning while braking, so that you don't lose momentum.

    • 2

Turn the wheel hard, while braking and holding the gas simultaneously. This locks the wheels into a turning pattern, allowing for "drift" that gives you better control of the car without losing speed.

    • 3

Let go of the brake at the apex of the turn, and accelerate out of the turn while righting the car. This allows you to steer enough to straighten out the car. If you kept braking after the turn was made, or didn't complete the drift, the back end of your car would "fishtail" and possibly spin out of control.
