How to Get to the Black Mage Village in Final Fantasy IX

In "Final Fantasy IX," Zidane and his friends are hunting the sorcerer, Kuja, a man responsible for destroying towns and killing countless, innocent people. On their travels, they reach Conde Petie, a quaint, mountainside town. The citizens tell Zidane that he can find answers to his questions in the nearby Black Mage Village. The Black Mage Village is hidden deep in the woods to keep intruders out. You get inside quickly, though, if you follow the signs.

Instructions

  Leave Conde Petie and head down the mountain until you reach a patch of grass. Turn the camera to the right. You see a long, narrow valley.

  Walk down the narrow valley. As you walk, you may be attacked by monsters. Continue until you reach a clump of trees at the end of the path.

  Press "X" to enter the forest. Ahead of you, you will see two paths. A signpost is in the middle of the paths and owls perch in the trees. The people of Conde Petie hinted that the Black Mage Village is found so deep in the woods that the owls do not go there.

  Read the sign. The sign says "Where there are owls" and points in a direction. It also says "Where there are no owls" and points in the opposite direction. Take the path labeled "Where there are no owls." Zidane appears to return to the main screen, but this is an illusion. If an owl flies away, you are going in the right direction.

  Keep reading the sign and going in the direction labeled "Where there are no owls." Each time you do, another owl flies away. You eventually arrive in a clearing and a Black Mage is in front of you.

  Enter the portal the Black Mage opens. You arrive in Black Mage Village.
