How to Fight High-Level Monsters in Final Fantasy VIII

High-level monsters are a plentiful source of experience and rare items in "Final Fantasy VIII." The game's elite enemies offer a challenge you can't find anywhere else. When you feel that your party is strong enough, high-level monsters are the ultimate test of your abilities. Once you've obtained the Ragnarok airship on Disc Three, you can access the Island Closest to Hell and the Island Closest to Heaven. All the monsters on these islands are level 100, and they're some of the toughest enemies in the game. Defeating these monsters requires preparation and a sound battle strategy.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the Island Closest to Hell and the Island Closest to Heaven. The Island Closest to Hell is the westernmost island on the World Map; the Island Closest to Heaven is the most northeastern. Pilot the airship to either island and disembark.

    • 2

Prepare your party by junctioning the most powerful spells to your characters' stats. Put Full-Life into Hit Points, Ultima into Strength, Meltdown into Vitality, Meteor into Magic and Reflect into Spirit. Place Triple in the Speed category, Tornado into Evasion, Double into Hit and Aura in Luck.

    • 3

Wander the area and enter a random battle. Begin the fight by casting Haste, Shell, Protect and Regen. This will speed your party's actions while increasing defense. Cast Aura to enable Limit Breaks. Designate one character as the healer. Have this character maintain Hit Points, remove status ailments and revive fallen party members.

    • 4

Defeat the enemy by using your most powerful physical attacks and spells. Utilize Limit Breaks when they appear to increase offense. Summon Guardian Forces for extra damage and support magic.

    • 5

Heal your party after every battle. Cure lost Hit Points with spells or potions and remove any negative status effects sustained during the fight. Remember to save your game often; fighting high-level monsters can mean instant death if things go badly.
