How Do I Catch Salmon in Breath of Fire IV?

Breath of Fire IV is a role playing game developed by Capcom for the PlayStation video game console. In addition to the core quest of the game, there is also a variety of mini games or sub-quests you can participate in. One of these mini games is fishing at various fishing holes throughout the land. One of the more rare fishes to catch is the salmon. While there are several places to fish in Breath of Fire IV, there are only two spots where you can catch salmon.

Instructions

    • 1

Journey to one of the two areas where salmon can be caught. The locations are at "River Two," which is located just north of Kag Woods, and at "River Three," located southwest of the Tomb. Both of these areas have shallow waters.

    • 2

Equip a lure to entice the salmon. The salmon is not the only fish swimming these waters, so using the correct lure will boost your chances to catch one. The lures that attract the salmon are "Worm," "Minnow," "Frog" and "Topper."

    • 3

Approach the water and begin fishing. At the water's edge, face in the direction you would like to cast your line and press the "X" button. Once your line is cast, you can move your lure up and down, as well as to the left or right using the directional pad. Or reel in your line by pressing the "X" button once more.

    • 4

Watch for tension on your fishing line, and quickly press and hold the "X" button to hook the fish. Once hooked, the fish will attempt to escape. There is an indicator box that your line is passing through. When the fish tries to escape, he will pull the line to the edges of this box to either the left or right. Don't let him pull the line outside of this invisible box, or else he will escape. If the fish is pulling to the left, motion your directional pad to the right, and vice versa.

    • 5

Keep the tension gauge in the green to completely reel in the fish. The tension gauge will indicate if you are applying too much tension, changing to red; are not applying enough tension, changing to blue; or have just the right amount of tension, indicated by green. Holding the "X" button is how you reel the fish in, so attempt to keep the gauge green. But when the gauge turns to red, let off of the "X" button and when the gauge turns blue, press the "X" button. Soon you will land the fish. If it is not a salmon, simply attempt the process again.
