How to Make a Gold Chocobo Fly in Final Fantasy 9

Once you've completed the lengthy process of acquiring a gold chocobo in Final Fantasy IX, you'll want to utilize your new bird's flying ability to explore some of the game's previously inaccessible areas. The key to making a gold chocobo fly is knowing where to begin. Chocobos can only take off and land in the forests scattered around the world map.   Ride your chocobo into any forest on the world map. Press the "X" button to begin flying. Your chocobo will leave the ground and hover in the air. Press the "X" button again to move forward. Use the square button for reverse.

  Use the directional buttons to move your chocobo around while you're in the air. Press the up and down buttons to adjust the altitude. Use the left and right buttons for steering. Rotate the camera with L1 and R1.

  Land your chocobo by hovering over any forest. Press the circle button and your chocobo will return to the ground.
