Capturing Chocobos &Gathering Nuts
Fly to the Chocobo Sage using the Highwind airship. His house is located just north of the Bone Village in the Northern Continent.
Purchase 99 Sylkis Greens. Afterwards, equip the Chocobo Lure material on any character you will be using in battle.
Fly to Gold Saucer area and wander around until you fight a Chocobo accompanied by two Spencer monsters. Throw a Sylkis Green at the Chocobo and kill the Spencers to capture it. This will be a Good grade Chocobo.
Find and capture a Great grade Chocobo by giving it a Sylkis Green and killing any enemy with which it is grouped. You can find these in two places: at Rocket Town area accompanied by two Valrons or Kyuvilduns, and at Mideel Area with either one or two Spirals.
Fly to the Icicle area and catch a Wonderful grade Chocobo. Use a Sylkis Green to keep the Chocobo at bay while you kill the Jumping Rabbits that accompany it.
Equip the Steal Materia on one of your party members and fly to the western, green area of the Northern Continent. Fight Valkrados Dragons and steal a total of three Carob Nuts.
Fly to the northeastern part of the world to Goblin Island. Find and fight a Goblin, then steal one Zeio Nut from it.
Chocobo Breeding
Feed your Good Chocobo (ensure it is female) at the Chocobo Ranch the rest of your Sylkis Greens to max out its stats. Afterwards, enter her at the Chocobo Race in the Gold Saucer until she reaches S-Rank.
Buy 99 Sylkis Greens from the Chocobo Sage and return to your Chocobo Ranch to feed your Great Male Chocobo. Enter the Great Chocobo at the Chocobo Race until he gains S-Ranking.
Mate your Good Female Chocobo with your Great Male Chocobo to get either a Green Mountain or Blue River Chocobo. The ratio of getting either color is a 50/50 chance.
Purchase 99 Sylkis Greens again at the Chocobo Sage, then feed your Green Mountain or Blue River Chocobo all of these Greens. Then enter your colored Chocobo into the Gold Saucer race until it reaches S-Rank.
Save your game, then breed your Good Female and Great Male Chocobo again to produce the other colored, opposite gender offspring Chocobo you do not have. If they birth the same colored or gender Chocobo as the one you already have, reset and load your game to try again.
Repurchase another batch of 99 Sylkis Greens and feed this to your newborn Chocobo. Then enter this new colored Chocobo into the Gold Saucer Chocobo Race until it attains the S-Rank.
Breed your Green Mountain Chocobo with your Blue River Chocobo to get a Black Chocobo (ensure this is the opposite gender as your Wonderful grade Chocobo). Restock with another 99 Sylkis Greens batch and feed them to your Black Chocobo.
Race this Black Chocobo into the Chocobo Race until it receives an S-Ranking. Then feed your Wonderful grade Chocobo with 99 Sylkis Greens, and race it until it also gets S-Ranking.
Mate your Black Chocobo with your Wonderful Chocobo. They will produce a Gold Chocobo offspring.
