How to Convert PS1 to Save to the PS3

The Sony PlayStation One (PS1) is a fifth generation home gaming system that, like other game systems of its time, made use of memory cards to store game saves and other data. Since you can play PS1 games on the PlayStation 3 (PS3), you can convert your PS1 save files so they can be accessed on the PS3. To do so, you must make use of a special memory card adapter.

PS3 memory card adapter

Instructions

  Insert your PS1 memory card into the memory card slot on your PS3 memory card adapter.

  Connect the USB end of your PS3 memory card adapter to an available USB port on your PS3.

  Turn your PS3 on. Select the "Game" option in your PS3 game menu and press the "X" button.

  Select the "Memory Card" option in the game menu with the "X" button. You are asked if you wish to copy your PS1 saves to the PS3. Press the "X" button to confirm this choice and begin copying files.
