How to Find Masamune in Chrono Cross

The Masamune has been part of the "Chrono Trigger" universe since the original game for the SNES. Originally, it was an ancient, mystical sword used to defeat Magus, a powerful sorcerer. In "Chrono Cross," its power has been tainted and it has an aura of evil enmity --- the sword was the downfall of the hero Dario. Finding and defeating the Masamune and Dario rewards you with one of the most powerful weapons in the game. You can find Dario at any point after you get a boat, but forcing the Masamune out into the open has additional requirements.

Instructions

  Travel to the Forbidden Island in the Home World any time after you have completed Karsh's quest on the Isle of the Damned. You need to complete this quest to get the Memento Pendant, which you need so you can speak with Dario. The Forbidden Island is northeast of El Nido. Look for the tiny island with smoke coming off of it.

  Place Riddel in your party --- if she is not in your party, you will not be able to complete this quest. Ride up to the island in your boat and press "X" to disembark. Follow the linear path to find a small house at the end of it. Go into the house.

  Speak with Dario and read all the dialogue to initiate a short cutscene and summon the Masamune. After the cutscene, you must fight Dario. The easiest way to defeat him is have the Black Plate equipped on Riddel and use her most powerful white magic spells while the other two characters use red magic spells.

  Watch the cutscene and read all of the dialogue after the battle to acquire the Mastermune, Serge's ultimate weapon.
