How to Kill the Dog in Silent Hill

In the survival horror game "Silent Hill," players take on the role of Harry Mason, who must survive encounters with all manner of deadly, supernatural creatures in the eponymous town. Not the least of Mason's problems are dogs -- the most common enemy encountered in the game. The hounds of Silent Hill look like rotting corpses and would like nothing more than to chow down on the game's protagonist, but you can kill them first. Depending on your priorities, you can accomplish this in one of several ways.

     Shoot the dogs to kill them. It takes two shots from a handgun, or one shot from a rifle or shotgun.

     Hit the dog with a melee weapon to kill it. While this takes more hits -- it takes four strikes with a knife -- if also conserves your ammunition.

     Stomp or kick an incapacitated dog until more blood comes out. A dog that appears dead can resurrect itself, so once you have shot it, run up and press X to stomp it or press forward and X to kick it.
