How to Get an Elnoyle Card in Final Fantasy VII

The Elnoyle card is a decent, but not spectacular, card that you can win by playing the Triple Triad minigame in "Final Fantasy VIII." This card is most useful for gaining access to two powerful items very early on through the Guardian Force refinement abilities. You can transform 10 Elnoyle cards into an Energy Crystal with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. You can further refine Energy Crystal into Pulse Ammo and Ultima Stones.

Instructions

  Challenge Trepie Groupie #1 to a match of Triple Triad. He is located in the cafeteria in Balamb Garden. Check the current rules he is using. Ideally, you want only the Open rule in effect and the All trading rule. Most of the other special rules and trading rules are not a significant hindrance. If the Random special rule or the Direct trading rule is in effect, remove them.

  Challenge any NPC in any other town where the Random special rule is not in effect.

  Choose not to start the game with the NPC if the prompt "I know rules not found in this area" appears. If you play a game when this prompt is up, the Random rule may spread. Play Triple Triad matches with the NPC whenever the prompt does not appear. Eventually, a message appears indicating the Random rule is no longer in effect. You need to perform this step only if the Random rule is in effect in Balamb Garden.

  Challenge the Queen of Cards to a card game. She should be located outside the train station in Balamb Town, but she does move if you lose specific cards to her. Use expendable level 1 cards against her. It does not matter if you win. Play her until a message appears indicating any trade rule, except Direct, has been spread. You need to do this step only if the Direct trading rule is in effect in Balamb Garden.

  Play against Trepie Groupie #1 in Triple Triad, as long as the Random special rule and Direct trade rule are not in use. Although he is not a difficult opponent, Trepie Groupie #1 has about a 25 percent of using an Elnoyle card, which is far better than virtually any other player. Repeat until you have enough Elnoyle cards.
