How to Play Triple Triad

Triple Triad is a card game that you can play throughout the 1999 PlayStation title "Final Fantasy VIII." You can acquire a collection of Triple Triad cards during the game by defeating enemies. Once you have at least five cards, you can play the game with other characters. Each Triple Triad card features a numerical power designation from 1 to 10 (with the letter "A" signifying 10) on the top, bottom and both sides. Play occurs on a three-by-three grid totaling nine spaces with each player taking turns placing a card on each space.

Instructions

    • 1

Approach a non-player character and challenge him to a game of Triple Triad by pressing the square button. If the character is interested, the game will switch to the Triple Triad screen.

    • 2

Select five cards from your collection that you wish to use during the game. Powerful cards feature higher numbers on one or more sides. You will increase your odds of winning by using your best cards.

    • 3

Pick a card and place it on the grid when it's your turn. If you put your card down next to one of your opponent's cards, the numerical designations come into play. If your card's number is higher than your opponent's card's number on the side they are touching, the opposing card's color will change from red to blue and you will control that spot on the grid.

    • 4

Continue taking turns placing cards on the grid. When all nine spaces are filled up, the game is over. If your blue-colored cards outnumber your opponent's red-colored cards, you win. As a reward, you can select one of your opponent's cards to keep.
