How to Obtain Carbuncle in FF VIII

In the 1999 Sony PlayStation title "Final Fantasy VIII," you play as Squall, a military man forced into conflict with evil forces looking to overtake the world. During the quest, you can obtain a variety of guardian forces, spirits that fight with you and help protect you in battle. Carbuncle is among the most powerful guardian forces, so you should look to obtain it in this adventure by using your draw ability, which allows you to steal guardian forces from enemies.

Primary Method

  Head to the right after you enter Dollet's Presidential Residence in Deling City.

  Climb the boxes to get onto the roof at the end of the path, and then climb the stairs to a corridor with red carpet.

  Continue on to the next screen and a boss battle against Iguion will begin.

  Use your draw ability against Iguion to snatch Carbuncle. This has the added benefit of removing reflect from Iguion's repertoire, which will prevent it from reflecting spells back at you.
Alternate Method

  Defeat Sphinxaur in Ultimecia's castle and choose to unlock the draw ability.

  Find Krysta in the castle to initiate a battle. This boss is on the castle terrace, past the chandelier.

  Snatch Carbuncle from the boss, using the draw ability. Defeat Krysta, and Carbuncle is now yours. This is the second and final chance to obtain this guardian force in the game.
