  Enter a code when prompted to select a character (X or Zero), with X selected.

  With the PlayStation controller, press the circle button twice, then left six times, and while holding down the L1 and R2 buttons, press start.

  With a GameCube controller, press the X button twice, left six times, and while holding the L and Z buttons, press start.

  With a Saturn controller, press the B button twice, left six times, and while holding the L and R buttons, press start.

  With the PC version, hold down and press Enter. The game will begin normally.

  Clear the opening stage -- note that at this point, the game shows no sign that the code was entered correctly. Once clearing the first stage, you will see the stage select screen.

  Find an armor upgrade capsule. The easiest -- and perhaps the only capsule attainable at the outset -- comes from Web Spider's stage.

  Select Web Spider from the stage select. Make your way to the far right of the stage until forced to go downward.

  When you drop into an area with no enemies -- a waterfall in the background -- and a ladder on the left -- head right and jump to the right of the screen to find a hidden room.

  Approach the capsule that you find, and Dr. Light will explain the ultimate armor that the capsule yields.

  Jump into the capsule, and X's armor will change into dark colors: Now with the ability to execute the "Nova Strike."
