Final Fantasy VII
"Final Fantasy VII" was the first 3D game in the "Final Fantasy" series. The story follows Cloud Strife and his journey with a group of resistance fighters, as they try to take down the mega-corporation known as "Shira." Unlike comparable Japanese-style RPGs, "Final Fantasy VII" features modern English dialogue and American mannerisms and references. Spanning over three CDs, "Final Fantasy VII" is one of the largest games on the PlayStation. "Final Fantasy VII" was released on June 1, 1997.
Vagrant Story
"Vagrant Story" is a story-driven RPG set in medieval times. The story revolves around Riskbreaker Ashley Riot, a member of the Valendia Knights of the Peace. Riskbreakers are essentially one-man armies, who are called on for tough assignments. The Valendia Kingdom has been seized by a zealous religious cult and it is up to Riskbreaker Ashley Riot to stop them. As the game progresses, new characters with their own stories and ambitions are introduced. "Vagrant Story" was released on May 16, 2000.
Grandia
"Grandia," originally released for the Sega Saturn, saw a more publicized release for the PlayStation on October 26, 1999. Unlike the aforementioned games, "Grandia" uses a cutesy, kid-friendly graphical art style, which is not commonly found on a system that emphasizes high polygon counts and realistic graphics. In the game, you follow the adventures of Jess, an innocent troublemaker who just so happens to be the son of a great adventurer. As Jess tries to follow in his father's footsteps, he encounters new friends and possibilities, as well as new enemies and a world of trouble.
