How to Turn PSX File Into ISO

Original PSX games are hard to find now that the console is--as of October 2010--two generations removed from "Current-Gen" gaming machines. Because they are so difficult to find, it is more important than ever that you know how to create backup copies of your favorite games, for should something happen to the original disc, chances are you won't be able to find a replacement. Fortunately, it is a relatively simple thing to create an ISO backup of your PSX game. All you need is a CD-R drive and a basic CD burning program such as Nero or IMGburn.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with CD-R/RW drive
  • CD burning software (DVD Decrypter, IMGburn, etc.)

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your PSX game disc into your computer's CD-R/RW drive.

    • 2

Launch your preferred CD-burning software--if you do not have one installed on your computer, several download links have been included in the "Resources" section--and select the "Create ISO" mode when prompted. This mode may also be labeled "Write Image File to Disk" or simply "Read" depending on which program you use.

    • 3

Ensure that the drive containing your PSX game disc is selected as the "Source" directory or drive, then click the folder or "browse" button next to the "Destination" section and choose where you wish to create the ISO file on your hard drive.

    • 4

Click the "Start" button--which may also be labeled "Burn," "Rip" or "Create"--to start the ISO creation process.
