How do I Get Out of the North Crater in FF7?

The North Crater in Final Fantasy VII or FF7, also known as the Northern Crater or Northern Cave, is where the final battle of the game takes place against Sephiroth. The game allows you to make several choices before this battle, including the option to leave the crater to search for more weapons, Materia or other items--a useful option if you find it difficult to defeat the many enemies inside the crater or need additional supplies before facing both the Jenova and Sephiroth boss forms.

Instructions

    • 1

Return to the area where you first entered the Northern Crater after sliding down the cliff and hopping down the stones three times. The crater's exit is the black area representing a cave opening at the top of your screen. You stood beside this area originally when you finished hopping down the stones.

    • 2

Enter the black area. If done correctly, you should emerge on the left side of the screen at the crater rim, where you originally slid down the cliff. Walk to the brown and tan ladder-shaped rock to the right of the black area from which you just exited.

    • 3

Climb the rock and then climb the rope ladder to return to the Highwind.
