Things You'll Need
Instructions
Obtain a replacement hard drive. According to CNET, you can use any SATA hard drive about 2 1/2 inches thick; laptop notebooks work as well. Find a hard drive with your desired amount of space that will fit within the PlayStation.
Turn off the PlayStation system. Remove the cover for the hard drive. It's a piece of plastic a few inches long, located next to the on/off switch. The plastic just pops out with a little effort.
Unscrew the hard drive and remove it. According to Gamespot, after the hard drive is no longer attached with screws, it will just slide out.
Insert the new hard drive. Mount the hard drive with screws. Put the plastic covering back on the PS3.
Switch on the PS3 system. The PS3 will detect a new hard drive. Select "Yes" to format the new hard drive for use with the PS3 system.
