Hooking Up Playstation to DVR System

Many modern DVR systems include RCA audio/video inputs on either the front or back panels to accommodate users with televisions with limited input ports. The DVR acts as a bridge between the Playstation console and the TV. This method is adequate for the first two versions of the Playstation, but users lose the HD video quality of the Playstation 3 games. RCA connections are inferior to HDMI or component setups, but will allow you to connect the Playstation to the TV through the DVR.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Playstation RCA cables to the console. These are the standard red, white and yellow connectors.

    • 2

Locate the RCA inputs on the DVR. Some models have the inputs on the front panel and others include them on the back panel.

    • 3

Insert the RCA cables into the color-coded inputs on the DVR.

    • 4

Plug in and turn on the TV, Playstation and DVR system.

    • 5

Use the TV remote to choose the video source for the DVR system. The source selection button is usually labeled "source," "input," "video" or "A/V." Press the source selection button until the signal from the DVR appears onscreen. A DVR that doubles as a cable box would show the cable stations or channel menu, for example.

    • 6

Use the DVR remote to choose the video source for the Playstation. In most cases this will be video 1 because the DVR only has one video input. The Playstation logo will then appear onscreen.
