How to Rip PS1 Games

While piracy in the video game industry is an ever-present problem, there is nothing illegal about burning your own PlayStation games to serve as backup copies, should your existing game disc become damaged or destroyed. While backing up these games isn&'t exactly the easiest thing in the world to do, it isn&'t overly difficult, either.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your PlayStation game disc into your CD player on your PC.

    • 2

Boot Alcohol 120%. You can also use the free edition of Alcohol 52% if you do not have the full 120% program.

    • 3

Select the "Image Making Wizard" from the list of options on the left-hand side of the Alcohol 120% window and select your CD drive from the drop-down menu. If left unchecked, click the box next to "Read Sub-Channel data from Current Disc."

    • 4

Pick "PlayStation" from the drop-down menu labeled "Datatype" and click the "Next" button at the bottom of the window.

    • 5

Choose which folder on your computer you want the PlayStation .img file to be saved to.

    • 6

Switch the image format option so that it reads "CloneCD Image File (.ccd)."

    • 7

Click the "Start" button to begin ripping the PlayStation disc onto your computer. Depending on the game in question, this process can take some time to complete.
