How to Copy a PS1 Game to a USB Hard Drive

The original Sony PlayStation (dubbed the PS1) was one of the most successful video game consoles in history. Sony continued producing games for it nearly 10 years after its introduction. Nowadays, PS1 games are not made anymore, so backing up your old classics is a good idea. PS1 backups are saved in the form of ISO files, and rarely reach 500MB in size. This means you can easily store all of your PS1 games on a single USB hard drive.

  Insert your USB hard drive into the computer USB port. Download and install one of the programs from the Resources section of this guide. (Select either of the following steps, depending on which program you choose.)

  Open "Imgburn" and click "Create image file from disc." Locate the "Source Drive" dropdown menu near the top of the main menu. Click the drive that your PS1 game is in. Click the "Destination" icon and select your USB drive as the save location. Click the large, green arrow to create the backup of your PS1 game.

  Open "Alcohol 52%" and click the "Image Making Wizard" link. Select your PS1 game drive letter in the "Source" dropdown menu and click "Database" in the lower right corner. Click "PlayStation" and click "Next." Click the "Destination" button and select your USB drive as the place to save the PS1 backup. Click the "Start" button to begin.

  Open "Magic ISO Maker" and locate the file explorer on the left side of the main menu Click the drive that your PS1 game is in and click the "Save" button. Select your USB drive as the save destination and click "OK" to create the backup.
