How to Save PlayStation One Games on PS3

Whether as a disk or downloaded from the Playstation store, all models of the Playstation 3 computer entertainment system offers backwards compatibility with most original Playstation software titles. In order to save progress during game play, an internal memory card must be created. Using the Playstation 3's hard drive functionality, memory cards can be created for use with original Playstation software. Although only two internal memory cards can be assigned for game access at one time, multiple cards can be created and stored on the PS3 hard drive. All internal memory cards are are limited to the original Playstation memory card storage capacity of 1 MB.

Instructions

  1. Create and Use Internal Memory Cards

      Turn on the Playstation 3 system. Select "Memory Card Utility" from the "Game" section of the Playstation 3 menu.

      Select "Create New Internal Memory Card." Choose which type of memory card you wish to create. In order to save data for original Playstation titles, select "Internal Memory Card (PS)."

      Select the blank text entry field to access the onscreen keyboard. Choose any name you wish for the memory card, and click on "OK" to finish the text entry.

      Select "OK" when prompted to assign the memory card to slot one. If another internal memory card has already been assigned to slot one, you will not be prompted. In order to assign internal memory cards to different slots, highlight the memory card from the "Memory Card Utility" menu and press the "triangle" button to access the card's options. Select "Assign Slots," and choose either slot one or two to assign the card. Once an internal memory card has been assigned to a slot, it will be accessible during game play to save data.
