How to Remove Scratches From a PlayStation Disk

PlayStation discs are handled frequently, and not always properly placed in the game case in between uses. As a result, you end up with badly scratched games that won't play. PlayStation games, especially for the PS3, can cost more than $50, making a game that won't work even more devastating. Teenagers and young adults make up the largest PlayStation audience, and don't always have the extra cash to replace a scratched game disc. Removing scratches is affordable and takes only a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the disc with glass cleaner, and wipe gently with a lint-free cloth. Cleaning the disc before proceeding removes any dirt or residue that may further scratch the disc.

    • 2

Squeeze a pea-sized amount of plain white toothpaste onto the disc. Gently work the toothpaste into the disc, working in straight lines from the middle of the disc to the outside edge. Do not rub the toothpaste in circular motions as this could create grooves in the disc.

    • 3

Rub the toothpaste onto the disc for several minutes, paying particular attention to the scratched areas of the disc. Do not apply too much pressure as it can cause damage to the disc.

    • 4

Rinse the disc well with warm water. Gently dry with a lint-free cloth or towel. Place the game disc in the PlayStation to see if it works. If it doesn't, repeat steps 2 to 4.
