PS2 & PS1 Compatible Games

Sony released the first PlayStation video gaming console in 1994, later coming out with the PlayStation 2 in 2000. The PlayStation 2 features better graphics and different games than the original, and it can play DVDs. The PlayStation 2 is also backwards compatible, meaning that owners of the system can use it to play games originally released for the first PlayStation. While some PlayStation games will not work on the PlayStation 2, many popular titles will.
  1. Medal of Honor

    • Electronic Arts released "Medal of Honor" for the PlayStation in October of 1999, and the game is also compatible with the PlayStation 2. "Medal of Honor" is a shooting and strategy game in which players must act as an officer trying to foil Nazi soldiers during World War II. Players are given missions that must be fulfilled in order to move forward in the game, and every mission has a set number of objectives. Aside from playing single-player missions, there is also a two-player mode where players can oppose one another in different stages. The goal in two-player mode is to see who can accomplish the most kills.

    Silent Hill

    • Konami released "Silent Hill" in January of 1999 for the PlayStation, and it functions with the PlayStation 2 as well. The main character in "Silent Hill" is Harry Mason, a man who can not find his daughter in the town of Silent Hill after they get in a car accident. Players must navigate through Silent Hill as Harry to find his daughter and find out what strange events are going on in the town. Players must contend with several kinds of monster enemies, and the game only allows a flashlight in order to see. After "Silent Hill," several sequels to the game were released for other systems.

    Grandia

    • SCEA released "Grandia" in September of 1999 exclusively for the PlayStation, though it is playable on the PlayStation 2. "Grandia" is a role-playing game that puts players in the shoes of three kids named Justin, Sue and Feena. The characters must face the Garlyle army and stop them from uncovering secrets that could give them control of the world. Players must square off against Garlyle forces in battles, and each of the three main characters has different strengths and weaknesses that come up during matches. Unlike many role-playing games, all of the main characters can fight opponents at one time instead of going after the enemy individually.
