How to Do Tricks on Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

Manuals, ollies, kickflips and grinds are all terms familiar to any player of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise. In "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2" on the PlayStation, gamers can pull off tricks for points--the more complicated the tricks, the higher the score. These tricks can be done when competing in challenges throughout the game or when facing off against another player in the game's multiplayer mode. After you learn the basic tricks, you can string them together for massive combos.

Instructions

  1. The Basics

    • 1

      Press "X" while skating to perform an ollie. The ollie is similar to a jump and can be used to jump at the end of ramps or onto ledges for a grind.

      Hold "L2" and press "X" while skating to perform a nollie. This is similar to an ollie but it will give you points while the ollie will not.

      Tap the directional pad up and press "X" to perform a no comply. Tap up on the directional pad twice and press "X" to perform a boneless. Use these tricks to add variety to standard ollies.

      Press and hold any directional button and tap "Square" to perform a flip trick These can be done at any time, though chaining them together in the air will lead to larger points.

      Press "Triangle" as your skater reaches the top of a ramp to perform a lip trick. Release "Triangle" to exit the trick and head back down the ramp

    Manuals

    • 6

      Skate forward on a flat surface within the game. Make sure you have plenty of space in front of you before attempting a manual.

      Tap up and then down on your controller to manual on the tail of your board. Press down and then up to manual on the nose of your board. When you enter the manual, a meter will appear on the side of the screen.

      Press up and down on the directional pad to keep the indicator in the center of the meter. If the indicator moves up, press down and vice-versa.

      Exit the manual with a kickflip by pressing "Square" or an ollie by pressing "X."

    Grinding

    • 10

      Skate near a ledge in the game. This can include benches, rails, and wires. Press "X" to ollie and use the directional buttons to position your airborne skater over the ledge.

      Press "Triangle" to enter a grind. You will move along the edge. Press right and left on the directional pad to keep your skater balanced.

      Exit the grind by pressing "Square" or "X" to trick off the ledge.

      Tap one of the directional buttons and "Triangle" as you enter the grind to perform a trick grind. For example, pressing "Left" and "Triangle" will perform a tailslide while "Up" and "Triangle" performs a nosegrind.

    Air Tricks

      Skate toward any ramp. Press "X" to perform an ollie as you reach the end of the ramp. This will launch your skater into the air.

      Hold "R1" and press right or left on the directional pad to rotate in the air. Completing a 360-degree rotation can net you lots of points.

      Perform flip tricks while airborne by pressing the directional pad in any direction and "Square."

      Tap up and down on the directional pad just as you hit the ground to enter a manual. This will continue any combo you started while airborne.
