Gallop Racer
Tecmo's "Gallop Racer" franchise spans four games: "Gallop Racer," "Gallop Racer 2," "Gallop Racer 3: One and Only Road to Victory," and "Gallop Racer 2000." However, only "Gallop Racer 3" was released in the United States in 1999 under the numberless title "Gallop Racer." In the game, players can play as the jockey or simply act as a spectator.
Equestrian Showcase
"Equestrian Showcase" was released in 2003 by Mud Duck Productions and developed by Tantalus Interactive. In this game, players take the role of famous jockeys like Mary King, Ian Stark and Matt Ryan in re-creations of real-life horse racing events in such locations like Kentucky, Badminton and Sydney. In Europe, Midas Interactive Entertainment released the game under the title "Equestriad 2001."
Winning Post
Koei's "Winning Post" franchise, unlike "Gallop Racer," does not allow players to assume the role of the jockey. Rather, "Winning Post" is a simulation where players bet on races and use the money to hire people like breeders, jockeys and trainers to help develop a winning horse. Although none of the original PlayStation "Winning Post" games were released outside of Japan, they can be imported for those players who have an imported PlayStation.
Barbie Race &Ride
Developed by Runecraft and released by Mattel in 1999, "Barbie Race &Ride" is a more simplistic, kid-friendly take on horse racing, allowing players to ride the game's four different horses through a total of five nature trails and caring for their animals through regular maintenance like grooming and feeding. "Barbie Race &Ride" also features several minigames and puzzles that can be unlocked by exploring the trails.
